The month of August is for Health and Wellness. We will explore how you can keep yourself healthy this month physically and protect your wellness mentally. As this is the last month of summer, I want to give you final tips and ideas for ending this summer month.
Health safety tips:
Hydration: Staying hydrated is important for many reasons. Hydration helps your body cool off as well as keep your kidneys healthy and working. You can eat fruits frozen or watermelon to stay hydrated as well as make smoothies.
Food safety: With the heat it can make foods decompose at a rapid rate due to the heat and moisture so make sure to dispose of food properly or store them and check before you eat to not get food poisoning.
Swimming safety: Stay up to date with CPR training when it comes to swimming. It could save a life in a time of need when you least expect it. Always keep an eye on your children in the water and know your limits in the water.
Sun protection: Following water safety practice applying sunscreen at least once an hour and reapply as needed. As it gets hotter, the UV rays from the sun is strong and without taking care of your skin can lead to cancer and burns that won’t be too favorable in the long run.
Wellness tips:
Make time for play: Although it may sound childish find the time to let loose and play. Maybe with your kids or pet or gaming, find a way to do something fun that makes you happy letting all the happy hormones flow aka your serotonin.
Move your body: Being stationary for long periods of time can actually be harmful for your body, so take the time to move about stretch, go for a walk, or maybe do some yoga. Your body will thank you for it.
Prioritize sleep: A good sleep schedule will help you navigate your day feeling refreshed and ready to go. And sometimes it is good to take a nap between the day when you need it. Up to an hour for a nap can be good and there is lots of research you can find that supports naps.
Practice mindfulness: If you never heard of it before mindfulness is simply a way to ground yourself in meditation to relax your body and mind. Ways to practice mindfulness are to practice breathing techniques, live in the moment, pay attention, etc.
