Spring Cleaning Your Mind-Starting an Emotional Reset

With the onset of daylight savings and warmer weather, most people are feeling the urge to declutter, clear old belongings to embrace new beginnings. Like a vintage t-shirt that we can’t imagine letting go of, our emotions can also take up space. Anger, resentment, or jealousy are some emotions that can build and stagnate in our body and often not leave space for different emotions. Emotional spring cleaning can look like setting daily check-ins with yourself or journaling your experience of emotions. It can also look like taking time to confront and process past painful experiences with a trusted friend or mental health professional. Also, spending time in nature or meditation can increase physical rest and calming sensations. As you think about changing your thermostat, you can reflect on your emotions. Do you find yourself "running hot" and it's taking control of your whole day? Or, are you noticing times when you're numb, close to freezing and you're not quite sure how to handle it? The good news is-"thermostats can always be recalibrated" with some adjustments and consistency (Team, 2025). While the goal is to not avoid distressing emotions; it’s important to remember you control when and how to approach an emotional reset.
